Fivemiletown is located in the southwest of County Tyrone. It was formely called 'Baile na Lorgan' meaming 'Town of the long hilltop ridge', its present name derives from its distance from its neighbours Clougher, Brookborough and Tempo. The town developed after the plantation, at one time copper was mined near the town, today the largest industry is the creamery located on the outskirts of the town. The Clougher Valley Railway opened in 1887 once ran down the town's main street in 1942 against a flurry of local protest the railway was closed.

For the Tourist seeking a relaxing break Fivemiletown has much to offer, the fisherman will find the area especially appealing with the nearby Colebrook river holding many fine salmon and trout. In Screeby Lough and other small loughs in the area the coarse angler will get some good sport from perch and rudd.
